A delegation from the Beijing University of Civil Engineering & Architecture (BUCEA) led by the president of BUCEA, ZHANG Dayu, visited the University of Mostar and held a working meeting with the administration of SUM on this occasion. The meeting was led by the rector of the University of Mostar, Prof. Dr. Zoran Tomić. A cooperation agreement between the Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture (People’s Republic of China) and the University of Mostar was signed in 2020. This agreement established academic cooperation in the form of exchanges of teaching staff and students, collaboration on joint projects, and sharing experiences with the possibility of accessing global university networks.
The meeting's topic was the collaboration plan for 2024, which includes a working visit of the SUM delegation to BUCEA and participation in the BRAUIC conference in 2024. As part of this cooperation, students from the University of Mostar will have the opportunity to participate in international summer schools organized within this alliance. Additionally, this visit provided an opportunity to discuss with the university team the possibility of applying for a joint research project funded by the Consortium of Higher Education Institutions of China-CEEC (Central and Eastern European countries) under the China Education Association for International Exchange. The project would focus on the long-term satellite monitoring of urban changes and the ecological environment in Bosnia and Herzegovina using artificial intelligence during the period 1990-2022.
We note that after the signing of the agreement between SUM and BUCEA in 2020, the University of Mostar was invited to join the international Belt and Road Architectural University Consortium (BRAUIC). This international consortium was established at the Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture in October 2017 with the aim of creating a platform for communication and cooperation between universities and exploring innovative development mechanisms for architectural disciplines.
The fifth conference of the Belt and Road Architectural University Consortium (BRAUIC) was held online on November 19, 2021, organized by the People's Government of Beijing, People's Republic of China, and the City of Sarajevo, with the joint support of the Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture and the University of Mostar. Simultaneously, the fifth Forum of Mayors of Capital Cities of China and Central and Eastern European countries was held. The welcome speech, as the acting president of the BRAUIC conference 2021, was delivered by the rector of the University of Mostar, Prof. Dr. Zoran Tomić.
The working visit of the BUCEA delegation is proof of the commitment of both institutions to expanding the scope of their existing cooperation and continuing to strengthen SUM's connections with prestigious institutions in the People's Republic of China.
